My Story: Honoring Black History Through Learning, Growth, and Opportunity

As a Training and Development Manager, I am beyond excited to be in a role that allows me to support learning, growth, and career development. Education and community have always been at the heart of who I am, and I believe deeply in the importance of providing opportunities – especially for African Americans – to learn, excel, and thrive in their careers.

My passion for education is rooted in my upbringing. My father, a dedicated nurse in the Army, and my mother, a retired lead medical assistant for the University of Michigan, both instilled in me the value of learning and perseverance. As one of eight siblings – seven sisters and one brother – I grew up in an environment where education and hard work were non-negotiable. That foundation shaped my commitment to ensuring that others, especially those in historically underrepresented communities, have access to the knowledge and tools needed to succeed.

I also hold a deep respect for the DEI Committee and its mission to create a more inclusive and equitable workplace. I believe that diversity, equity, and inclusion are not just initiatives – they are essential to building strong, innovative, and empowered teams.

Black History Month is a time to reflect on the legacy of those who paved the way for us and to continue the work of creating opportunities for future generations. I am honored to be in a position where I can contribute to that mission, fostering learning and growth for all.
