Help During the Hard Times

Our Older Adult Services Senior Peer Counselors are working hard during shelter-in-place. Instead of weekly face-to-face visits, volunteers are on the phone and using technology to provide wellness checks with adults age 55+, either in a one-to-one setting or in virtual groups. It is more important than ever to reach out to our neighbors who feel isolated and need additional services.

There has been a surge of need for wellness checks among older adults, according to the Fair Oaks Adult Activity Center in Redwood City run by PFS. The staff at the center are operating an Older Adult Resource Line for adults age 60+ in San Mateo County who need connections to programs that can help in this time of uncertainty. The Resource Line is also a way to keep older adults connected during this isolating time and calls to the Resource Line have increased every week. Participants who usually visit Fair Oaks Adult Activity Center for meals have been able to pick up boxes of food and gift cards from PFS staff and volunteers.

The Older Adult Resource Line is open from 7:30am-4pm Monday-Friday. Please call 650.780.7542 for support and resources.
