Thanks to 'Moms Against Poverty'

The preschool at Peninsula Family Service (PFS) headquarters in San Mateo serves 32 children daily. The campus includes two classrooms and a playground to provide a nurturing, safe, and stimulating educational environment for children. The playground was run down by weather and heavy use, and old equipment was falling apart or had been discarded. The students and teachers desperately needed new playground equipment to enjoy and use every single day.

Thanks to a grant from Moms Against Poverty, the preschoolers received their dream playground.

Our Early Learning programs focus on children, from birth to 5 years old, a critical growth stage when more than 90 percent of brain development occurs. We fuel this growth by teaching high-quality STEM-focused curriculum; providing healthy meals and snacks; supporting our teachers; connecting families to physical and behavioral health resources; and working one-on-one with parents to ensure their needs as a family are met.

An essential element

An outside playground space is essential to our preschoolers, as studies indicate that children excel academically, socially, and emotionally when they play outside and develop their gross motor skills. Throughout the school day, each child is given the opportunity to grow and learn through positive experiences that foster social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development.

Thank you Moms Against Poverty for transforming our playground into a space that makes our children and teachers happy! Their mission is to nurture and educate underprivileged children to their fullest potential, so that one day they can contribute and lead within their own communities to break the cycle of poverty.
