SEEDS of Learning is a nationally recognized professional development program for parents/caregivers and educators of young children. This program is designed to help children in their care develop the early literacy skills and the social-emotional foundation they need to be ready for kindergarten. SEEDS is specific to preschool kids and has a more thorough process focusing on reading, literacy and phonics.

Using a unique combination of coaching and collaborating with teachers, SEEDS of Learning empowers children with the knowledge to develop oral language, emergent literacy, social skills, and self-regulation skills setting them up for success in kindergarten and beyond.

Supporting Early Education, Development & Socialization (SEEDS) program provides vital support for families with children aged 3-5

  • Teachers are given trainings on all SEEDS teaching strategies
  • Literacy coaches go into the classroom and model for the teachers
  • Constant communication with parents and families on what the children are learning
  • Literacy coaches assess children by using the IGDI assessment

Preschoolers are assessed by PFS Literacy Coaches using an IGDI (Individual Growth and Development Indicators) which tests them on their Kindergarten readiness levels by using picture naming (vocabulary) and letter recognition and sounds. Literacy coaches work with our teachers to develop better literacy practices with their students.

  • This includes being intentional when reading a book to the kids and testing their comprehension of what they heard
  • Encouraging parents to use the Raising a Reader books that are provided to them and read to their children every day to encourage learning and bonding
  • Families, teacher, and coaches are all working together to create more spaces for the kids to work on literacy outside of school
