Early Learning Volunteers

In the classroom:

  • Helping teachers with daily activities including reading, games, projects, and other classroom activities (daily)
  • Working with PFS STEM Coordinators and preschoolers on a STEM project
  • Clean, sort, and organize toys and materials
  • Chaperone field trips
  • Sponsor and support PFS teachers with a celebration for our preschool graduations at one of our Early Learning Centers
  • Provide backpacks, decorations, and support for the graduation parties (May-July)

High School and College Volunteers

PFS offers high school and college students the opportunity to take their community service to the next level. Explore exciting teenager and young adult volunteer opportunities with PFS!

  • We have opportunities for students to be classroom volunteers at our Early Learning sites, mostly at 24 Second Avenue. Our volunteers assist with pick up, supporting the teachers, and playing outside with our early learners
  • Make a positive impact on your community while gaining valuable skills
  • Participants are given tools to become better community leaders while generating valuable volunteer hours for school and beyond
  • Volunteers under 13 require parental supervision

Older Adult Services Volunteers

Fair Oaks Adult Activity Center – Redwood City:

  • Assist with check-in, raffles, lunch, and games
  • Host a holiday gift drive for older adult participants
  • Make care packages or hygiene kits for older adult participants
  • Create holiday cards for older adults

Help@Hand:

  • Support with translating in-person workshops and training materials
  • Volunteer support with Tagalog, Cantonese, and Russian is most needed

Peer Counseling:

  • Specially-trained volunteer counselors provide weekly visits to adults age 55+ to help manage transitions and life changes such as health concerns, mobility issues, caregiver needs, and grief

Mature Worker Program

Via Zoom:

  • Help participants prepare for job interviews and panel discussions, including learning about new opportunities, evaluating a career change, navigating the interview process, presenting the right image, relating to younger coworkers, overcoming ageism, etc.
  • Present and share knowledge with participants on various subjects, including financial matters, long-term care, and evaluating a career change

Help our Community

If you are interested in supporting PFS families with a donation drive, please call 650-403-4300 or email volunteers@pfso.org. We will work with you to create a fun donation drive for your group that meets the needs of our participants. Past drives have included:

  • Early Learning donations drives for children’s books, wrapped toys, hygiene and toiletry items, and infant care supplies.
  • Sponsoring a preschool graduation party with decorations, caps and gowns, yummy treats, cake, etc.
  • Supporting our preschool graduates with backpacks and school supplies to prepare them for Kindergarten.
  • Adopting a family during the holidays
  • Canned food drives
